Plan Travel Outfits

“I dress by my mood.” “I never know how I am going to feel when I get up in the morning.” “I overpack on trips so that I can have options.”

This used to be me, but that was before I discovered…. Planing Travel Outfits ahead of time.

Since I love the idea of skipping baggage claim and getting straight to the trip, I have found some efficient ways to pack a carry-on bag. See my post on How to Pack a Carry-On for more!

One thing that makes the biggest difference is knowing what clothes you are going to wear on the trip before you start packing.

For me, I am not a fashion girl, or a trendy one, I don’t even know how to match clothes… I really just want to feel good about what I am wearing, and be comfortable. With that said, depending on the conditions of the place we are going I have a few go-tos that haven’t let me down.

Shoes: These are always in the rotation: flip flops, tennis shoes, and/or boots, maybe heels if necessary.

If you look at my most recent insta pics you will see only these types of shoes.

I used to hate flip flops but after rocking my gold Havaianas since a Disneyworld trip in 2019. I have not looked back. They are easy to pack and the color goes with anything.

Tennis shoes that you can walk, hike, even workout in if you need to. Currently rocking these dusty (used to be white on white) Nike Air Max Graviton (my husband calls them my fat steps lol). But these are comfy and can be worn in a variety of ways.

Boots for those cold, places, I currently have a black, brown, and cream colored pair that rotate depending on what the deal is.

Heels- I found these cute, easy to walk in, and goes with anything pair of heels from Zara, they are clear so…I guess that means they match anything.

Wear the tennis shoes or boots on the plane, pack the others.

Now for what clothing to pack.

The essentials:

*the length of the trip determines how many

Bras- I try to wear one, pack one regular and one strapless

Undies

Socks

Undershirt

PJs- I usually take leggings and a t-shirt

Swimsuit

Airplane clothes:

Jeans

T-Shirt

Sweater/hoodie

Jacket -if necessary

Bulkiest shoes

Now the fun what to wear where?

First, when planning your trip know where you are going, check the weather forecast for when you’ll be there.

Have an idea of what you’ll do there. Even if you don’t have a complete itinerary, at least have an idea of the types of things you’ll want to do.

Pinterest and instagram are your friends- Look up on each, the name of the place you are going and look at the pics of the people. Are they wearing coats, are they in swimsuits, get a feel for the vibe of the place.

If you know of landmarks or places that you know you are going to want to take pictures at, think about what clothes you have that you want to wear in that picture.

I look at the number of days we are going to be there and then think about what we may do on each day. Then what outfit that I have that I would like to wear on each day.

Then pack only this.

*Add on- an extra T-shirt to wear on the day you leave, with the jeans you wore on the day you got there, (could be bought while on your trip)!
