Day Trip to Bratislava Slovakia
Originally, we had planned to spend the weekend in Vienna, but we realized that we could cross another country off our list by making a quick day trip to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.
First, let's talk about getting to Bratislava. The best way to travel from Vienna to Bratislava is by train, and there are several trains departing from Vienna's main train station (Wien Hauptbahnhof) every hour. The journey takes just under an hour, and tickets can be purchased at the station or online in advance.
Once you arrive in Bratislava, it's just a short walk to the old town, where you'll find a mix of charming medieval streets, historic landmarks, and festive holiday markets. The main square, Hlavné námestie, is the heart of the old town, and it's where you'll find the Christmas market, (it was over when we got there) with its twinkling lights, festive stalls. You can also find a variety of traditional Slovakian treats here!
No matter how you choose to spend your Christmas Eve in Bratislava's old town, you're sure to have a festive and memorable holiday.
So why not take a trip from Vienna and experience the magic of Christmas in this charming city? It's a great way to make the most of your weekend and cross another destination off your travel list.
Plus, think of all the bragging rights you'll have when you tell your friends and family that you celebrated Christmas in Bratislava – they'll be green with envy (or possibly just confused, depending on how well-versed they are in Eastern European geography). So pack your bags, hop on a train, and get ready for a festive and unique Christmas celebration in beautiful Bratislava.
