Our First Honeymoon
I call it our first honeymoon because we hope to have a honeymoon type kind of trip every year!
What I mean by honeymoon type trip is, it is the kind of trip where you don't do anything lol. There is no jam packed itinerary, no budgeting, no worrying about transportation, or activities. Just eating, drinking, and beaching!
When we were planning our honeymoon I was thinking… um Fiji or Bora Bora, or something extreme! When my husband was searching and looking and asking around, he learned more about the Sandals resorts from friends and coworkers.
I am not going to lie I was super skeptical about Sandals as we have all seen the cheesy commercials with the models lounging around singing about having the time of their lives and I just thought it seemed… pretty awful actually..
So we did what anyone else in our positions would do and we looked up videos on youtube to see how others may have experienced these resorts. The vibe looked like nothing that I had really thought would be interesting.. That honeymoon type of vibe where you don’t really even need to leave the resort. Isn't that a bad thing? If you go to another country, shouldn’t you experience that country and not live in a little fantasy on the resort?
I was still not completely sold on the idea, but I decided, with the timing and the budget that we had for the honeymoon, that it would have to be an awesome choice!
So Sandals Saint Lucia it was.
We stayed at the Sandals Regency La Toc Resort in Castries.
It was quite the journey getting from the airport to the resort. They have a shuttle available to come pick you up and the drive was quite a long and winding one, but so beautiful! Saint Lucia looks like a dream, and also like Jurassic Park… which is the stuff of my dreams, so it was gorgeous!
The resort is so nice welcoming and really beautiful! There are 3 Sandals resorts in Saint Lucia so you can literally stay at one and go back and forth between all 3 to experience all that they have to offer! So many restaurants, pubs, and activities to do right there on the resorts! They are all-inclusive so drinks and food are included in the price you paid to stay there. Most of the activities including water sports are included as well, but there were some extra charges for things like the golf course, and scuba diving.
Since I was still a little unsure about just staying on the resort the whole time and not feeling like I have really experienced what it is like to be in Saint Lucia, we booked an island tour and we also made friends with some folks who took us out to the local street party.. Which was a blast!!
All in all, I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed the stay at Sandals. The food was so delicious and there was such a variety of restaurants available! The drinks were always flowing from the mimosas and Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee in the morning, to the G&Ts by the pool in the afternoon, and the wine and whisky at dinner!
The vibe here, I am classifying as honeymoon vibes- meaning that this is not the place to go if you want to explore, or if you want an authentic feel of the place you are visiting, but it is the place to be if you are looking to escape for a bit, no planning, no thinking… heck, no moving really.. Just find your beach lounger and don’t move for the whole day!
For the cost and what you get staying here, it is definitely worth it. Another thing that happens is when you stay here they offer you discounts to book your next trip with Sandals. So while we were there, we were able to put $200 down to secure a lower price for our trip to Jamaica! (They also offer a nice military discount too!)
At this rate, we may be working toward having a honeymoon every year!!
